I use laughter as a defense mechanism -- I always have. When the bigger kids threatened to beat me up, or were choking me, I would use laughter afterwards to help with the trauma. Also, I knew that I was smart enough to say something to them that I knew they wouldn't understand -- but that was funny to all my friends. I would lose the war of strength, but not the war of wits -- I always won that war.
